Our Highlights

The wooden cow attracts more than just young guests to Kühtai

One of the world’s largest mother cows with a calf is waiting to be discovered. This giant cow family, located near the DreiSeen Hut, stands 6.5 meters tall and serves as an oversized playground for children. The high-alpine cow family is complemented by three-meter-tall wooden letters. The letters spell out the word “KÜHTAI” and offer opportunities for climbing, swinging, sliding, and playing hide-and-seek.

Silzer Energy Trail (No. 12 on the map) Ascent 90 m / Descent 520 m / 4.7 km / 1 ½ h

Information points and viewing platforms provide interesting facts about water and energy, complete with a quiz. Take the DreiSeenBahn up to 2,410 m, pass the DreiSeen Hut to the Finstertaler Reservoir, possibly visit the Energy Exhibition Hall, cross the dam, head up to Die Mute, then on to the viewpoint overlooking the construction site of the Kühtai Reservoir. Descent to the DreiSeenBahn valley station.

DreiSeen Loop (No. 6 on the map) / Ascent 40 m / Descent 470 m / 5.6 km / 2 hrs

Start at the DreiSeenBahn valley station with free parking, down to the Dortmunder Hütte, continuing to the KaiserBahn valley station, past the hunting lodge, to the StartBahn mountain station, switching to the southern valley side at the Sonne & Schnee inn, and behind the church toward the Kühtai High-Altitude Training Center back to the DreiSeenBahn valley station.

The starting point is the parking lot at the DreiSeenBahn valley station (1,956 m) – take the DreiSeenBahn up to the mountain station (2,410 m) – DreiSeenHütte (2,334 m) – Hirschebensee – (2,160 m) – Kühtai Church (2,020 m) – Knappenweg – Dortmunder Hütte (1,949 m) – Kaiser-Franz-Josef-Weg – Isser Bridge (1,745 m) – Obere Iss (1,932 m) – Knappenhaus with the Pochwerk mill near Pochersee (2,002 m) – Upper Iss (1,932 m) – Mittergrathütten (1,956 m, unstaffed) – Längental Reservoir (1,904 m) – DreiSeen-Bahn Valley Station (1,956 m). Hiking time: approx. 5 hours.
