Themed Trails

An informative and varied hiking route. Information points and viewing platforms provide interesting facts about water and energy, complete with a quiz. Take the DreiSeenBahn up
to 2,410 m, pass the DreiSeen Hut to the Finstertaler Reservoir, cross the dam, climb up to Die Mute, then on to the viewpoint overlooking the construction site of the Kühtai Reservoir. Descend to the DreiSeenBahn valley station.

The Knappenweg trail winds through the unspoiled mountain landscape between Kühtai, Ochsengarten, and Hochoetz. Swiss stone pine forests, high-alpine flora, and breathtaking views line the trail through the Wörgetal Valley, where, some 350 years ago, copper ore, galena, and pyrite were mined at altitudes of up to 2,500 meters.

Eight different routes, with walking times ranging from two to six hours, offer opportunities for leisurely hikes as well as longer tours. Shorter alternatives are also available for families.

The lock house at the Finstertaler Reservoir offers fascinating insights into the world of hydropower. Located about 50 meters above the dam and easily accessible on foot, a visitor center provides information about energy generation and the Sellrain Silz power plant. A film also offers interesting facts about the plant’s construction and technology.

The dam control building is open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
