Responsibility at 2,020 Meters

The Alpine natural environment is the foundation of everything that makes Kühtai special. This makes it all the more important to use resources responsibly, harness renewable energy, and continue to develop mobility and infrastructure for the long term. Sustainable development does not result from a single measure. Energy supply, transportation, snowmaking, operational processes, and the commitment of lodging providers are all interconnected. Kühtai views this process as a long-term endeavor—with the goal of preserving alpine experiences for future generations as well.

Alpine Solar Power

With Kühtai Solar, Kühtai is taking an important step toward a more sustainable energy supply right on the mountain. This high-alpine photovoltaic project takes advantage of the unique conditions at over 2,000 meters above sea level and is expected to make a significant contribution to powering the mountain railways in the future. With a projected annual output of approximately 2.9 GWh, a large portion of the energy generated will be used directly on-site.

The high-alpine location offers particular advantages: low temperatures, intense solar radiation, and snow reflection all support electricity production—especially during the winter months, when energy demand in the ski resort is at its highest.

Kühtai Solar builds on existing photovoltaic solutions in the ski resort and is consistently expanding this approach. Step by step, this creates more renewable energy right where it’s needed—at an elevation of 2,020 meters.

Clean Electricity from the Region

The nearby Sellrain-Silz hydroelectric power plant supplies renewable energy and produces a significant portion of Tyrol’s electricity needs. Kühtai’s total local electricity demand—including accommodations and mountain railways—accounts for only a small fraction of the energy generated there.

Efficient Snowmaking with a Natural Reservoir

For its snowmaking operations, Kühtai uses the naturally filled Kaisersee reservoir, located at an elevation of approximately 2,303 meters above sea level. Since the water is already stored at a high elevation, it does not first need to be pumped up using energy-intensive methods. The reservoir has a usable volume of approximately 115,000 cubic meters.

Public and Free Transportation

Bus connections from Innsbruck and the Tyrolean Oberland make it possible to travel without a car. Seasonal ski buses connect Kühtai with Hochoetz and other starting points. With the Welcome Card, guests staying two nights or more can use numerous regional bus and train connections for free.
